Cal i Forn i a

I’m back from a whirlwind Business trip to our USA office.  We have managed to cram so much in, I thought I’d share with you some pictures of what I’ve been up to.  I have decided that I really want to take Mr C. over for a holiday, he would love the mountain biking, and I’ll love the shopping! and the food, and the people who are so warm and welcoming.

Day 1 – Rodeo Drive

Craft Shop shopping on Rodeo Drive was a fabulous experience – its just like the movies, I had my eyes peeled for Richard Geere, but didn’t spot him any where 🙂

Rodeo Drive Baby!
Rodeo Drive

How totally fabulous is this, I’d love a couple of days exploring Rodeo Drive, Sun, Shopping Cocktails and atmosphere in abundance!

At the end of the day we headed to Rattlers for dinner, I’ve visited the USA lots of times (I’m very lucky) but it was my first time in a Rattlers, if you are heading to LA you must go the food was amazing and the atmosphere fantastic, they’d even decorated cowboy boots all around the restaurant – I LOVED them and the traditional kilner my water came in.

Day 2 – meeting the Team

Had a fabulous day in the office with the USA Team talking about all the fabulous new products we have coming up, and then headed out for dinner.  There were so many of us Donald had to hire a HUGE mini van to fit us all in, I’d hate to see what a maxi van looks like! We then headed out for some fabulous food with the gang and had a wonderful evening catching up, my desert was too fabulous, the most delicious sorbet I’ve ever had!

Day 3 and 4 – another day with the Gang in the office

More food and laughs with the Gang and on our last day a traditional pancake breakfast! this is the one and only time I had them this trip, so a real treat!

“No one does pancakes like the USA!”

Day 5 – Homeward Bound

I’m home, I can hardly believe what I’ve done in the last few days and I’m full of ideas for new products – it was a fabulously inspirational visit, with fabulous people.  I’m already missing my very best stateside friend beautiful Michelle.

Till next time California.

I’m Back…

…but not in an Arnold Schwarzenegger way!

I’ve been gone too long and have had twitchy fingers for a while now, so because I really couldn’t sleep this morning, even though I wanted a lovely long lie in, I’ve bitten the bullet, given the old blog a bit of a refresh and decided to write my first post in a long, long time.  I’m not sure I “LOVE” this new format, so it may change again soon.

New fresh approach for me in Blogosphere I think, I’m going to be sharing what I’m just generally up to on a regular basis and sharing all the new and exciting crafty things I’ve been getting up to.  My favourite recently is this wonderful pin cushion in a teacup, which has also been glued to the saucer and tea plate for extra portable storage for bits bobs and doodads.  pin chusion

It has got me thinking about what else I can do with teacups… I’ve recently received a box full of really beautiful ones such as this from my Gran, which are an heirloom, but I don’t want them just sitting doing nothing in a box so I’m looking for crafty teacup projects to fill the house with, please do share your ideas with me!  One of the things I’ve been wanting to make for an absolute age is a Tilda teacup angel, I bought the hair, crown, fabric for skin, goose feathers for wings, and everything at least 2 years ago! Do any of you do this, I’m a terrible procrastinator! But, I think this pretty pink and gold one is screaming out to have a little Angel in it! Just like this one, but with a crown instead of a rose in her hair.

I’d love to hear your ideas and inspiration for things to do with Teacups too, I have a LOT of them, teacups that is, not ideas – I’ll be heading to Pinterest for those!

I’m pacIMG_0886king for an exciting business trip to California today, and so I’m going to be fashioning myself a Denim Skirt, from a pair of old Jeans which are to big now, but will be lovely and loose, cool and comfy for travelling in.  This “how to” from the latest  Simply Sewing Magazine has got my creative juices flowing, so I’ll be back with a picture of me in the skirt soon, I hope, tomorrow, I will be making mine longer!

Until next time, Crafty Hugs

New Design Team Members – meet the successful applicants

Afternoon all

So after much deliberation, tea, cake, tears and frustration the design team selection panel have finally agreed on who our new Design Team Members will be.  Before I get around to sharing with you everyone’s names, what I do want to do first is say a massive and extremely heart-felt thank you to each and every one of you who applied to be part of our Design Teams.  The quality of the applications, wealth and breadth of talent simply was outstanding and made the job of choosing a very very difficult one for the selection panel.  It has taken them so long to reach a decision because it was very hard to separate you all, it was such a close run thing, eventually we had to run a silent ballot – a bit like the elections to keep it fair and unbiased, it took us longer than hoped to do all the counting, and double-checking, but the result we can be very proud to say was those with the most votes were selected.

So, the new teamies will join some of well established members, whom I am sure you already know and follow, step forward and take a bow: Margaret Brown, Pam Leng, Caroline Weir, Donna Ferguson, Debbie Fisher, Bianca Shervington, Linda Hill, Laura Williams, Mandy Taylor, Tracey Branscombe and Claire Simpson.

So here we go, drum roll please, join me in welcoming the following very talented crafters to the Crafter’s Companion Design Team:

  • Carole Davis
  • Donna Marie Attwood
  • Karen Foy

  • Liz Jones
  • Lyndsey Turner
  • Marie Jones
  • Nicole Bretherick
  • Rachel Webber
  • Sarah Jayne Brown
  • Tracy Freeman

Joining our super talented Die’sire team members – take a bow: Tina Theis, Donna Ferguson, Kathy Black Debbie Fisher and Sharon Callis, are:

  • Becky Skinner
  • Claire Murphy
  • Debbie Sheridan Wood
  • Jane Ayres

Welcome aboard ladies we can’t wait so see all the fabulous inspiration you provide with you products.  A large number of our followers asked if we would share an example of the winning entries from all the new DT peeps.  I thought that was an excellent idea and have included a slide show below for you.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I would really like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone at Crafter’s Companion to thank you all for your time in submitting an application, the standard was exceptional, and we would like to wish everyone all the best in their future DT applications. till next time …

Finally finished Oliver’s Knitted Bunny

Evening all

I’ve had a very busy few days and have finally gotten round to sharing the finished results of the baby gift I was Knitting for Sara. I really wanted it to be ready for Oliver being born but I ran out of wool half way up his head and had to order another ball! The only place I could get it was the USA so I had to wait a while for it to arrive!

So here he is, 10 weeks late! But better late than never!

He was a labour of love…. It’s knit with Sirdar snuggly snowflake yarn, which is, in order to achieve this fluffy effect, very fibrous, and very difficult to knit! I’ve been knitting since 5 years of age, and I’ve never knit with a yarn as temperamental as this! It’s has no stretch or give, and really makes your hands ache when knitting it, or it did mine… But….. As with most things the effort was worth it, the lovely fluffy super baby soft result is perfect for a handmade cuddly toy and he is super super soft and snuggly….perfect for little hands to explore and because his face is hand sewn there are no nasty little hard bits that can be pulled or fall off.

I am really pleased with the result, and Sara absolutely loved it, which made me very happy, of course 🙂

Will I ever knit with this yarn again? Not for a very long time and only for someone very special like a grandchild maybe? One day!

Hope you like him too 🙂

My first attempt at quilting ….

Morning all

So I’ve procrastinated long enough …. I attended a beginners ribbon ring class at my local quilting store, The Quilters Cupboard in Durham (which by the way if you are local is owned by one of the nicest and funniest people I have ever met, Rita Walker, there are rooms full of fabric floor to ceiling!) I had a fab day with my mam learning how to make a ribbon ring …. And promptly bought the fabric to make another 3 and into a lap quilt! I’ve been so scared to go it alone that it’s sat very forlornly at the bottom of my UFO box for months …. This weekend I plucked up the courage and started cutting 🙂 you can see my progress thus far and thankfully nothing has gone wrong yet !

I am hoping to have it all finished next weekend ready to pop in the caravan for our first trip of 2014, when it may be a little chilly on a night 🙂 I think this quilting malarkey could become addictive!

Happy Monday everyone

Sara’s Christmas Presents – hand sewn with love …

Evening all

So, I made the majority of my. Christmas presents this year, but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had a minute to share them with you !

First up is the set I made for Sara – when she visits me at home she always admires my matching set in the kitchen so I thought it would be great to make her a set of her own … I used Debbie Shores fabulous. No.1 craft book Half Yard Heaven …. Made a full apron, cute chicken doorstop and a heart door hanger. I was thrilled with the end results, but they would not have been possible without Debbie’s fantastic book, if your new to sewing you need this book it’s a fabulous introduction …. Actually experienced sewists need it too just for the fab projects

Sara loved them and they look fabulous in her kitchen !
